This song is hot. Never mind that invokes images of sexy vampires and smoldering werewolves in a fictitious Louisiana town, the song itself is just… Hot..
This is the final entry in this little exercise. Hope you all enjoyed reading/listening as much as I enjoyed posting!
This song always takes me back to riding in the passenger seat of my dad’s car (those days, there weren’t any laws against having kids in the passenger seat), listening to music on the 8 Track (anyone else but me remember those?), and my dad and I singing along to his favorite piano man..
Back when I was taking piano lessons, I had a friend of mine teach me the intro to “New Years Day.” I guess if I ever sit at a piano again, I might be able to remember it.. then again, it’s been a while, so who knows?
Day 24 – Song That You Want Played at Your Funeral
Tyrone Wells – When All Is Said and Done
My relgion wouldn’t really permit music to be played at my funeral. I would hope, though, that whoever winds up buring me, many years from now, would know that I don’t care much for proper religious protocol. I also wouldn’t really want too many sad songs played. I’d want whoever survives me to celebrate my life and not mourn my death, because I love life. That said, if a sadder song was needed, I’d choose this one. The lyrics speak for themselves..
“When all is said and done, And I’m looking back upon this race I’ve Run
And when my heart gives in, I know you’ll be beside me precious friend
It’s just the same from the begining to the end
When all is said and done
And if I lose my way, and I wander down this open road for days
And if the sun should fall, and the dancing we once did becomes a crawl
Let the memories move like shadows on the wall, If I lose my way
When I’m coming home, and I walk across the bridge of death alone
I will fix my eyes on the one who’s waiting at the other side
It’s my old friend with countless others there beside
I love me a good “song to brood to.” These two songs are my favorites – Have been for quite some time, actually. I found it impossible to just pick one and not the other – please forgive me for the apparent ‘cheating.’
Basically, back when Taylor Hicks was still on Idol, and right after I heard him sing “Something”, I found these two songs. Had I heard nothing else of his prior American Idol repertoire (which, of course I did), and had he done nothing else of note on the show after that week (which of course he did, and quite well, I might add), I’d have voted for him regardless based solely on these two songs. These days, I’ve been feeling both these songs quite a bit, but “it’s alright, I’ll get by, somehow..”
Again, this was difficult. Pin pointing just one song that I listen to when I’m happy?? Not going to happen – So picking the first one that popped in to my head seemed like the best way to go. I’m guessing it did so because it reminds me of my sister-friend Jayme, who I miss like crazy since she’s moved back home and I get to see her but once or twice a year (is it almost September yet?).. and that time Tony gave her a shout out singing “Take it Easy Little J-Dawg” on the Rock Boat. Or the fact that whenever I go see Tony live (especially if I’m with Jayme), I find it difficult to video this song because I just want to dance to it – can’t hold a camera still and shake my ass at the same time, I guess.
